No discussion on ISAF supply with Gen Kayani says Gen Allen

Rawalpindi - 14th December 2011

During telephonic conversation between General Jhon Allen and General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani (HI) on 12 December 2011, the issue of reopening up of ISAF (international security assistance force)  supply route never came under discussion as has been highlighted in the statements of Commander ISAF. It would be appreciated that unnecessary speculation in this regard is avoided.

Last month on 26th November 2011 the ISAF supply was closed because of ISAF airstrike which killed 25 Pakistan Army men at Sala check-post. General Kayani took a serious notice of this and took necessary measure to react against future attack from the other side of the boarder.  Some of the major measures by the COAS were finishing the chain of command in army, ordering shooting down of ISAF drones, evacuating Shamsi and upgrading air defence system at Pak-Afghan border.

In last few weeks the Pak-US relationship has gone from bad to worst.

Air Defense system upgraded at Pak-Afghan border

Peshawar - 9th December 2011

Today on Friday Pakistan has upgraded its air defence system on the Afghan border to make it capable of shooting down aircraft, after ISAF (International security Assistance Force) air-strike which ended up killed 25 Pakistan Army's soldiers.

The upgrade also include a fully equipped air defence system on the Pak-Afghan border. It has the capability to trace and detect any invader aircraft from the order side of the border. The step had been taken to avert air incursions from Afghanistan and to respond to any future air strikes. The system has also been upgraded to immediately respond after detecting any aircraft or helicopter and to shoot it down.

Pakistan shut its border to ISAF supply convoys on 26th November, the same day as the deadliest single cross-border attack of the 10-year war in Afghanistan. The government also ordered the United States to clear out the Shamsi air base in the southwest, widely reported as a hub in the covert CIA drone war against the Taliban and Al-Qaeda in Pakistan’s border area with Afghanistan. Pakistan gave tacit support to the programme, but no US drone strike has been reported on Pakistani soil since 17th November 2011.

The November 26 attacks brought the fragile Pakistani-US alliance to a fresh low, already reeling from an American stealth raid that killed Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Abottabad on 2nd May 2011. It was after that raid, conducted by US Navy SEALs who flew in from Afghanistan.

US President Barack Obama has expressed condolences over the November 26 border deaths, insisting it was not a “deliberate attack” by ISAF as claimed by the Pakistani army.

ISAF supply suspension continued on 13th day

Torkham - 8th December 2011

Today on Thursday the blockade of supplies to ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) in Afghanistan continued on Thursday on the 13th day. Pakistan closed ISAF supply line after the deadly strike on two Pakistani posts in Mohmand Agency and killed 24 soldiers dead on November 26

The ISAF-spearheaded operation slackened in Afghanistan hinged mainly on the supplies including fuel and other commodities routed through Pakistan, as according to Afghan officials, the ISAF whittled down their activities and anti-terror operations owing to shortage of oil.

The operation underway in several districts of Kandahar has been left unfinished with the ISAF troops settled back at their barracks. Meantime, ISAF’s routine actions are being adversely impacted, as according to unnamed Afghan sources, if the situation persists, reserves of eatables hitherto available with the armed forces will soon be exhausted.

14 soldiers martyred near Quetta

Musa Khel - 21st November 2011

Today on Monday fourteen soldiers were killed in an ambush blamed on separatist rebels in Baluchistan province. The soldiers belonged to the Frontier Corps paramilitary force. The attack took place in the Musa Khel district, 400 kilometres (250 miles) southeast of the provincial capital Quetta.

It was one of the deadliest attacks on troops and marked the highest number of military dead in a single incident since March when friendly fire killed 13 soldiers on the northwestern border with Afghanistan.

The troops were guarding a private coal mine and blamed the attack on Baluch rebels, who rose up in 2004 to demand political autonomy and a greater share of profits from the province's wealth of natural resources.

Fourteen paramilitary personnel, including a major, were killed and several others were wounded. Baluch militants were involved in this attack. The rebels were armed with automatic weapons and that most of the soldiers died from gunshot wounds in the remote area.

The scene of Monday's attack was not far from Sui town, where two other soldiers were killed in a bombing on Saturday.

Last month, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said the government planned to create 20,000 jobs in Balochistan, admitting that past neglect of the region had fuelled its troubles. He announced a six percent employment quota in some federal government departments and the introduction of 3,000 jobs in tribal police for Baluchistan residents.

ISPR condemn's fake report of Imran-Munter meeting

Rawalpindi - 21st November 2011

ISPR strongly condemn  a news report that Imran Khan was introduced to Munter in the presence of DG ISI. Today on Monday a spokesman for  ISPR has categorically denied the news report which appeared in Sunday Times, a UK newspaper, and also carried in the national media that Imran Khan, the chairman PTI, was introduced to Cameron Munter, US ambassador to Pakistan, in the presence of Lieutenant General Ahmad Shuja Pasha, the DG ISI. It is totally baseless and concocted story, the ISPR spokesman said.

Quoting sources, the report stated that the PTI chief was introduced to Munter in Pasha s presence, adding that Imran Khan is supported by the Pakistani intelligence agency and military.

In a recent interview with an Indian journalist, Imran Khan said that if he comes to power, he will be General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani boss. Imran Khan further explained that his agenda is to bring the Army under him and make the ISI report to him directly. In an earlier interview, Imran Khan denied any involvement with the intelligence and military.

JF-17 Thunder crashes and pilot martyred

Attock - 14th November 2011

Yesterday on Monday the Pakistan’s ambitions to sell JF-17 fighter jets to prospective buyers suffered a setback on Monday when one of the aircraft in the ‘Thunder’ fleet crashed in Attock district during a routine flight, killing the pilot.

The tragic incident took place a day after Pakistan Air Force (PAF) exhibited the jets for sale at the Dubai Air Show, at a price almost one third of conventional F-16 fighter jets.

The jet crashed near Mansar Town after taking off from Kamra Airbase.
Although PAF officials did not offer any comments on the crash, several media reports highlighted that the jet was a frontline JF-17 Thunder combat manufactured with cooperation of China.

An official statement released by PAF authorities, however, did not mention the make of the plane. “A PAF jet aircraft, while on a routine training mission, crashed due to technical malfunction,” it said.

The PAF is in process to equip itself with two squadrons of JF-17 jets at present and planning to raise another squadron by early next year.“The pilot was fatally injured. No loss of civilian life or property has been reported on ground,” added the statement.

The pilot, Squadron Leader Muhammad Hussain, was killed as his parachute did not open after he bailed out of the aircraft. The pilot’s body was found about two kilometers from the site of the crash.

The law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area after the incident. PAF rescue teams have launched an operation to clear the debris after dispatching helicopters and rescue teams to the crash site.

Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman has ordered an inquiry into the mishap. JF-17 Thunder was jointly manufactured by Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, Kamra and China Aero-technology Import Export Corporation.
